Are you resisting your mystical gifts? You might be without even knowing it!
Growing up, I had some experiences that made me realize I was different than other people. I not only had strong intuitive abilities, but I had what could be considered psychic abilities such as clairaudience, claircognizance, and clairsentience. I always thought they were perfectly normal. Until I discovered that other people hadn’t experienced the same things I had. Of course, being raised in an evangelical Christian home, the Bible was very clear about condemning these gifts that I had.
Because of that, I not only resisted them but lived in absolute denial that they even existed. I could not have psychic gifts and be a good Christian girl. So I spent decades of my life in the spiritual and psychic closet, hiding my mystical powers away. What I didn’t understand until much later, was just how much denying my abilities and who I really am was impacting my mental and physical health.
Resisting my mystical powers manifested in some subtle, and not so subtle ways in my life. And it was easy to rationalize it away as just being overly stressed. Are you denying your mystical gifts?
Here are some common signs that could indicate you’re resisting your abilities
1. Unexplained physical and emotional fatigue
Do you feel constantly drained, irritable, or low-energy without any clear physical cause? While this can have physical causes it can also be a sign that you are suppressing powerful energy within you. Repressing psychic or spiritual energy can create a “pressure” that leads to fatigue and low motivation.
2. Recurring negative thought patterns or self-doubt
Do you ever find yourself dismissing intuitive nudges or second-guessing any insights? This is a big sign of resistance. I did this for a long time. it has taken me a long time to become better at trusting those intuitive nudges or psychic experiences. In fact, doubting my intuition is what ultimately led me to use oracle cards. I use them to validate my intuition. You may be doing this too! Consistently telling yourself that “it’s all in your head” or avoiding any acknowledgment of psychic experiences may be keeping you from your gifts.
3. Heightened anxiety or restlessness
Your higher self and inner guidance is an important part of walking your true path. When your higher self is trying to guide you toward embracing and using your gifts, resisting it can lead to unexplained anxiety, feeling restless, or even having a “nagging” sensation that something important is being ignored.
And let me tell you, that ignoring your inner guidance doesn’t work! That restlessness and anxiety will only get worse and your higher self attempts to get your attention and steer you to your path.
4. Frequent headaches or pressure in the third-eye area
For as long as I denied my gift, I am fortunate that I never struggled with headaches. But many people who resist their intuitive powers feel discomfort or pressure around the forehead, temples, or crown. This can be a sign that there is an energetic blockage in the third eye or crown chakras, Which are the energy centers associated with intuition and spiritual insight.
5. Difficulty with focus and memory
Are you a bit scatterbrained? Do you forget things often? Do you struggle to focus when you’re working? Resisting an essential part of who you are (your mystical gifts) can create mental clutter. This clutter makes it challenging to focus or retain information. Why does this happen? Because the energy that you would use for mental clarity is instead being used to keep your abilities hidden.
Let’s face it, it’s exhausting to continue keeping a facade in place! Constantly trying to be someone who you are not is unnatural. And it’s a whole lot more work than aligning with who you really are and accepting your mystical side!
6. Fear or aversion to anything spiritual or mystical
If you feel an intense, almost irrational fear toward practices like tarot, meditation, energy work, or anything “mystical,” it could be a sign that your gifts are close to the surface, and resistance is keeping you from exploring them. This was definitely me for a long time. Conditioning from my Christian upbringing taught me that recognizing my mystical gifts was bad. And although I was drawn to so many of these practices, I avoided them and even acted as if I hated them. I didn’t. But I was afraid of not being able to fit the status quo in my little Christian universe.
7. Recurring dreams or symbolic imagery
Messages can try to reach you through dreams. This is particularly true if they involve repetitive themes, symbols, or encounters with spiritual guides. Ignoring these dreams or dismissing their meaning can be a form of resistance.
8. Experiencing strange ‘coincidences’ or synchronicities
Do you see repeating numbers such as 1111, 888, 1010 all the time? Maybe there are certain animals or insects such as butterflies, ladybugs or cardinals that you see everywhere. They seem to follow you. Have you ever experienced one person telling you needed to go and do something, and then heard the same message from a complete stranger, or also saw that message in a random place? Frequent “coincidences” can be a gentle nudge from the universe trying to get your attention. Resisting these signs by dismissing them as random events may indicate you’re avoiding a connection to something deeper.
9. Feeling overwhelmed by empathy or emotional sensitivity
Do you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed by others’ emotions but try to ignore or numb this sensitivity? This could be a sign that you are resisting your empathic or psychic gifts. This emotional overwhelm is common when intuitive gifts are close to the surface.
10. Avoiding time alone or reflection
When there’s a part of you urging spiritual growth or self-exploration, it can feel uncomfortable to be alone or sit quietly with your thoughts. Spending quiet time alone often brings you closer to the energy and insights you may be resisting. I always got restless when it came to alone time. Now, I love it!
Recognizing these signs is a good first step toward easing into acceptance of your mystical abilities. Finding grounding practices, meditation, or gentle exploration of intuition can help ease the resistance and open up to your unique gifts.
How can you overcome resistance to your mystical gifts?
Overcoming resistance to your mystical powers can be a deeply transformative journey. One that calls for patience, openness, and self-compassion. Here are steps to help you begin to accept and embrace these gifts:
Identify and recognize your fears
Begin by asking yourself what specifically you fear about your mystical gifts. Is it fear of judgment, loss of control, or perhaps fear of the unknown? Journaling these thoughts or talking them through with a trusted person can help you bring unconscious resistance to light.
Cultivate mindfulness and grounding practices
Engaging in regular meditation, breathing exercises, or spending time in nature can help ground your energy and release any anxious or scattered thoughts. Grounding practices help you feel stable and safe in your own energy, which is essential as you explore your mystical abilities.
Gradually practice trusting your intuition
Start by noticing subtle feelings or thoughts without dismissing them. For example, if you feel a certain energy in a room or sense something about someone’s mood, gently acknowledge it. Over time, you’ll strengthen the habit of trusting these insights.
Work with a mentor or spiritual guide
Sometimes, a skilled mentor or spiritual guide can help you process experiences that might feel overwhelming. They can provide guidance, reassurance, and exercises to ease your resistance and build confidence in your abilities.
Explore your gifts slowly
If you’re curious about tarot, energy work, or any other practice, approach it with a playful and curious mindset, rather than intense expectations. The slow exploration can reduce pressure and allow you to enjoy the process rather than feel stressed by it.
Clear limiting beliefs
Resistance often stems from limiting beliefs like “I’m not special,” “This isn’t real,” or “I’ll be judged.” Using affirmations, shadow work, or self-reflection, work on gently releasing these beliefs. Belief clearing can open space for new, empowering ideas to take root.
Create a safe space for exploration
Set aside a small area where you can freely experiment with your gifts without judgment. It could be a cozy spot for meditation, journaling, tarot readings, or crystal work. Knowing you have a safe, private space helps reinforce that it’s okay to explore.
Learn to shield and protect your energy
If you’re an empath or sensitive to energy, learning shielding techniques can prevent overwhelm and make you feel safer exploring your abilities. Visualizing a protective light around yourself can help you feel in control of your boundaries.
Practice self-compassion
Embracing your mystical powers is a gradual process, and self-compassion is essential. Accept that it’s normal to experience ups and downs. Each small step is meaningful, even if it feels like slow progress.
Journal your experiences and progress
Journaling can serve as a private log of what you notice, dream, or feel intuitively. Writing about these experiences can help you see patterns, track progress, and build confidence, turning resistance into openness over time.
Connect with like-minded souls
Surrounding yourself with open-minded, supportive people can ease the fear of judgment and create a sense of community. Look for local or online groups where people explore spiritual and mystical topics—having companions on the path can be empowering.
Honor your boundaries and take breaks when needed
Pushing too hard can create resistance, so listen to your inner signals. Take breaks when needed and return to your exploration when it feels right. This approach keeps your spiritual journey light and allows you to explore at your natural pace.
Each of these steps can help you move gently toward embracing your mystical gifts without overwhelming yourself. Over time, you’ll likely find a unique way of working with your gifts that feels authentic and empowering for you.
